Rug Royalty: The Karastan Carpet.

Known throughout the world, the Karastan carpet is the premiere manufacturer and designer of the finest area rugs. They are the top-notch broadloom carpets for residential use. The Marshall Field's Company first started selling Karastan carpets in 1928. It was the first and only American rug having the exact appearance of a pure Persian rug in design, pile, color, and luster.

The story of the Karastan carpet isn't just about how they perform, but also how they look. They are top of the line and feature 100% pure New Zealand wool, the finest in the world. The Karastan carpet can be used side by side with fine Persian rugs in perfect decorative harmony.
They are marvelous reproductions of fine oriental rugs.

The beauty behind the Karastan carpet is the use of non-fading dyestuffs and a special "luster wash" from a power loom. This process produces the rug with a soft back that will show pile yarns like the hand-woven originals of the Orient.

The Karastan carpet has proven to be the most enduring rug under very torturous conditions. In 1933-34 at the World's Fair, Karastan allowed the public to walk over the carpet to prove its durability. Afterwards, when the Fair was over, they cleaned one half of the rug and left the other half dirty. The public was astonished the carpet was returned to its original condition. They repeated the demo again in 1939-40 at the New York World Fair to prove it wasn't a fluke.

It is very possible to afford a Karastan carpet. Though they look like a million dollars, they are attainable. There are many stores and outlets to visit, however, you can also purchase one on the internet. On many web-sites you can get a Karastan carpet discount and up to 70% off
the regular price. Other discounts may be free shipping or a free felt pad. Whichever way you choose to purchase a Karastan carpet, it is well worth the investment.

Mohawk Carpets have come of age!

Carpets and Carpeting have evolved from the time that prehistoric man used animal skins to adorn his cave abode to today where we have quality Mohawk carpets. Mohawk carpet manufacturing today is a mix of old-world craftsmanship involving weaving and 21st century innovation for producing tufted carpets that are more resilient and need less maintenance. Carpets can be woven by hand or by machine; whereas tufting is invariably by machine and use computers to determine patterns, styles, construction and density. Special needs decide the way a carpet is constructed, for example, a cut-pile carpet is more durable whereas the loop-pile is easy to clean. The health-conscious amongst us can rest assured that carpets emit very low levels of volatile organic compounds and trap mites, dust and allergens and maintain a safer air quality. One can be doubly sure, of course, by buying a green label carpet. But in the case of commercial carpets, the needs are somewhat different. Static control, acoustic effect, soil masking and flammability, for instance. are absolute requirements here. Mohawk, Shaw, Beaulieu and Saxony are among the larger and more popular carpet brands available.

Let Mohawk Tommy essay your lifestyle.

Carpeting your home is like essaying your lifestyle; and Mohawk Carpets go a long way to help you accomplish that. In 1839, U.S. manufacturer Erastus Bigelow invented the power loom for weaving carpets. 39 years later, the four Shuttleworth brothers brought 14 used carpet looms from England to Amsterdam, N.Y. and launched one of the biggest carpet empires in the world the Georgia-based Mohawk Carpet Mills Inc. Today they have the Aladdin, WundaWeve, CustomWeave and Horizon brands for your home and the Durkan, Bigelow, and Karastan brands for your commercial needs. While a Mohawk Commercial Carpet guarantees a 21 year lifecycle, their Aladdin Collection with its highly functional construction using nylon, polyester and PET, and value-priced line makes it a popular choice in home offices and family rooms. Little wonder then, that Mohawk Tommy their cute mascot smugly presides over his empire as it emerges as a leading carpet producer through to the 21st century.

Wholesale Carpet, Why Not?

Carpets are an expensive investment, consumers pay anywhere from twenty dollars to three hundred dollars a square yard, so why not try a wholesale carpet. Carpets are the number one way to add visual and physical warmth and charm to your home. Carpeting can easily run you into thousands of dollars. Dalton, Georgia is the carpet capital of the world. What better place to find top wholesale carpets sellers, and wholesale carpet mills?

Internet searches for wholesale carpets leads you back time and time again to all the top venders in Dalton, Georgia. Either the manufacturer themselves are located there, or they purchase the carpet they offer from someone in Dalton, Georgia. You can't get away from it the best carpets, wholesale or not are found in this carpet capital.

If you decide you don't want wholesale carpet why not try wholesale carpet tile. Carpet tile is eighteen by eighteen-inch carpet squares. Carpet tiles come in various thickness, patterns, and hundreds of colors. You can buy them two ways. Dry backed, which needs adhesive or self-sticking. Installing carpet tiles makes repairing damaged or worn area of carpeting much easier. Which is also more cost effective as you can replace only the carpet tile or tiles that are bad instead of tearing out the entire room. If you do chose to buy carpet tiles be sure to buy extra squares the same time you have your room carpeted. Tiles purchases later will most certainly be a slightly different shade.

Urine Stains In Carpet - Get Them Out

First the bad news: Not all urine stains are removable. The types of damage caused vary according to the urine content. This is determined by the pet's diet, age, sex, and any medications being taken. If it is removable, the following steps may get it out.

1. Blot up the urine as soon as you discover it. Use plain white paper towels to avoid dye transfer.

2. Mix 1/4 teaspoon liquid dishwashing detergent (non-bleach and non-lanolin) in a cup of warm water. Apply this to the spot.

3. Blot up the moisture, rinse with warm water, and apply more of the detergent mixture. Rinse, and continue the process until you don't see any urine transfer to the paper towels.

4. Mix two tablespoons of ammonia in a cup of water. Apply this to the spot, blot it up, rinse with warm water, and repeat. Blot the area dry.

5. Mix one cup of white vinegar with two cups of water. Apply this to the spot, blot it up, rinse, and repeat. Rinse well when you are done, and blot the area to remove as much moisture as possible.

6. Put a stack of plain white paper towels on the spot and weigh them down with something flat and heavy (something that won't lose its color if it gets wet). Change the paper towels occasionally, until the spot is dry.

The faster you get to the spot, the more likely it is that it can be removed. When urine spots develop over time, and are not noticed right away, the dyes and carpet fibers may be permanently damaged. In beige carpet, the stains will appear red, yellow or orange. Color can sometimes be restored by treating with a solution of two tablespoons of clear, non-sudsy ammonia in a cup of water.

Getting Urine Odor Out Of Carpet

To get urine odor out, it's often necessary to remove virtually all the urine - especially in the case of cat urine. Many products simply mask the odor, and fail even at that during times of high humidity. Some pet stores and veterinary offices now have enzyme treatments that work better, and professional carpet cleaners can apply these for you if you aren't sure how to do it.

If odor persists, you may have to remove that section of carpet. You can replace it with scraps if you have saved them, or cut a piece from an area that isn't visible. Unfortunately, sometimes the padding and even a section of flooring has to be removed to totally eliminate odor from old urine stains. Try the simple steps above before you lose hope though, and good luck.

Choosing Carpeting For Your Home

When selecting carpeting for your home you have many things to consider and many options to weigh. Carpets come in a vast array of colors and styles, textures and fibers and there are many different qualities of carpets to choose from.

One of the first things to consider when purchasing a carpet is how much traffic will it receive? If you have a high traffic area, then nylon would be a good choice due to it's durability. Nylon is also stain resistant and repels mildew. A carpet of Olefin would also be a good choice for heavy traffic areas as it is strong and easy to clean. Olefin is used in some artificial sports turf. Polyester is also excellent in high traffic areas as it is easy to clean and resists water based stains. Polyester has the look and feel of wool, which would be the finest quality fiber, but polyester is much less expensive than wool. There are also some blends of the above fibers available which are long lasting and durable. Some carpet manufacturers supply performance rating guidelines, ask to see these.

Another consideration would be the density of the carpet. You want a high number of fibers per square inch. A closely packed pile is an indication of a well made carpet. Check the carpet backing closely to make sure you don't see any bare areas.

The two most popular types of carpeting today are loop pile and cut pile. Loop pile has individual strands of yarn pulled through the carpet backing twice, creating a small loop. Cut pile has the loop cut at the top, leaving tufts of yarn that stand straight up. A cut pile carpet is generally more durable than a looped pile carpet. Cut pile carpets come in a variety of styles such as shag, textured, saxony and velvet or plush. Loop pile carpets would be a berber, cable or sisal. Loop pile carpets are a good choice for high traffic areas.

If you are looking to carpet a high traffic area, or have a limited budget, carpet tiles are another option. Carpet tiles can be purchased for around $1.00 per square foot. Carpet tiles usually come in 18 inch squares and are made of a tough nylon loop that will not unravel. They don't require padding as normal carpeting does, although some do come with a padded underside. Carpet tiles are an easy do-it-yourself project for any homeowner.

The next consideration would be color and/or pattern of carpeting. Light carpeting colors create a spacious effect, making a room seem larger. Light color carpets of course show soil much more easily than dark. However, most stain and soil treatments put on carpeting today do help to prevent this problem. Dark or dull carpet colors will absorb light giving the room what some call a "cozy" feeling. Rugs with patterns will make a space seem smaller. Your color choice could be based on the paint color used on your walls. It is suggested that if you do this, the color of the carpet be darker than the color on the walls. Also, when choosing your carpet remember that the carpet installed on your floor will appear darker than the small sample you see in the store. Ask to take carpet samples home so that you can see how they actually appear in daylight and at night.
